This common outpatient procedure is utilized for functional and cosmetic reasons. South Beach Vision works with some of the best oculoplastic surgeons in Florida. We provide detailed eye lid evaluations and co-management with the some of the best eye lid surgical results in Miami and Miami Beach.

Functional surgery may be recommended if the upper eyelid develops loose skin, which is common with age. The eyelid tissue can hang down past the top of the cornea and can obscure the superior field of vision. This is a detriment to normal vision and can lead to difficulty recognizing objects above and in front of you. This condition occurs frequently in elderly patients as the outer skin tends loosens and separates away from the underlying tissue with advancing age. This irregular lid position can limit functional vision and visual field and may necessitate surgical correction. This same process can occur at younger age as well. Cosmetically the lids may overtime develop excessive subcutaneous fat tissue and/or wrinkling. Both of these issues can be cosmetically concerning and can be easily improved by this simple procedure. Dr. Stelzer can guide you in the right procedure selection based on you specific concerns and evaluation during your eye exam.

The blepharoplasty procedure involves creating very small incisions along the eyelid crease and the removal of excess tissue. Blepharoplasty is usually performed under local anesthesia in an outpatient surgical setting. Topical antibiotics are used which reduce risk of infection. Protection of the eyelids post-operatively for a short period of time will allow optimal healing and the best results. Mild swelling and bruising is common and normal immediately after the procedure. The final surgical results and optimal cosmetic appearance usually take a few weeks to be fully appreciated.

Botulinum toxin (Botox) is a non-surgical treatment that is commonly utilized for medical and also cosmetic conditions. Botox can be used medically to relax over-active muscles which can cause unwanted movements and functional limitations of the face and vision. Botox is utilized for cosmetic purposes to reduce wrinkling of the skin of the face. This popular procedure is not a permanent treatment and must be repeated after several months to maintain effects. South beach vision works with specialists who can evaluate your specific needs and provide expert Botox application. Contact us today to have a complete eye examination and cosmetic evaluation.
